Saws can be tricky. A lot of the time it seems as though half the battle is finding out which one you need. Maybe you just need a general purpose cutting machine, and in that case, there are very few that are more versatile than the table saw.

But which should you buy? This is where we come in. We’ve taken a close look at the market and put together a list of seven of the best table saws that are available today. With our help, you’ll be cutting away like a pro in no time.

When you want precision and detailed woodwork, you go straight for the scroll saw. We listed the best scroll saw for you. Check the list here!

Top 7 Table Saws For 2019

This comparison table shows you the name of each table saw we’ll be reviewing, and a couple of important specifications for each. This is just a brief overview though, so please wait until you’ve seen what we have to say before making a decision.

So how do we evaluate these products? Essentially, we’ll be looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly in each of them and making our judgment from there. In the end, we’ll consider each product’s strengths and weaknesses, before choosing the one which is best overall.

Outdoor Sport 01-0819 Mini Electric Saw – Best Mini Table Saw

table saw reviews

If you’ve had a quick look at some of the saws on offer, you probably noticed that they can get pretty pricey. Thankfully, the Outdoor Sport 01-0819 is nice and inexpensive, and it doesn’t compromise on quality.

It costs a little over $40 and is far smaller than some of the professional tools. This makes it perfect for people who plan to use it occasionally, perhaps for craft projects or a home business. It stands just 6” tall, 8.5” wide, and 8” deep, and weighs 8.2 pounds, so it’s highly portable too.

This saw comes with two different channels in the table and two 4” blades. One of these has 24-teeth and is carbide tipped, while the other is a tile blade coated with diamond. These two blades should allow you to take care of most simple tasks without any further investment.

portable table saw

We really liked that the table has an adjustable height; it’s a small feature, but one that has an almost limitless importance. Saws can be dangerous, and it can be hard to find something which is the ideal height. This allows you to change it depending on your work surface.

Now obviously this saw isn’t going to be cut out (pardon the pun) for any heavy-duty work. You’re not going to be cutting fence posts with it, but for smaller projects, it’s ideal. Feel like making a birdhouse? No problem.

It seems pretty fairly priced, though. A full-sized table saw can easily run into the hundreds of dollars and the simple fact is that not everybody needs one of these. Sometimes, a smaller tool that can handle thinner pieces of wood is all you want, and this fits the bill nicely.

best table saw 2018

All things considered, this is a pretty solid entry-level table saw. For what it costs, it provides a good level of functionality and even an alternative blade in case the standard one isn’t to your liking. It’s small enough to stow away in a cupboard when not in use too, which is fantastic.

The only other thing we would have liked to see is an official outlet for replacement blades: they’re a standard size, but often, you don’t know what kind of quality you’re getting at the hardware store. If Outdoor Sport sold these alongside the saw itself, it would have been far easier to recommend this.

What We Loved

  • Powerful yet inexpensive
  • Small and highly portable
  • Adjustable table height

What We Didn’t Like

  • May not be powerful enough for your project

Rockwell BladeRunner X2 – Best Budget Table Saw

top rated table saws

Whilst the previous product we saw was a perfect match for a hobbyist, you’re going to need something with a little more power for your DIY needs.

That’s where the Rockwell BladeRunner X2 comes in. It’s far more powerful, capable of cutting wood, tile, plastic, and even copper (up to 3/8” thick). As you might expect, it’s a bit more expensive, retailing for just under $90, but it justifies this price tag a number of different ways.

As well as increased power, this saw also comes with a vacuum port for removing sawdust, a steel rip fence, a mitre gauge, five different blades to get you started, and even a three-year warranty. Not a bad deal, right? But there’s one more thing that makes this product attractive.

It’s very portable, more so even than the Outdoor Sport. It weighs more, of course, but still clocks in at under 15 pounds. It comes with a carry handle anyway, so that’s not an issue. It is a little larger too: 17.5” wide, 16.1” deep, and 8.3” tall, but it’s still far from huge.

Now, this saw allows you use any 4” T-shank jigsaw blades as a replacement. Better still, this can be done very quickly since you don’t need any tools. In fact, Rockwell claims that you can change a blade in just three seconds. Get this: there’s even a storage compartment so you can keep your blades nearby at all times.

This saw allows you to take care of most jobs around the house without any problems. Admittedly, it still won’t be enough for professional use, but for a fairly inexpensive table saw, it definitely punches above its weight.

best contractor table saw

Sounds pretty great, right? Here’s the catch: the height of the table itself cannot be adjusted. This seems like a fairly small issue, but even the lowest priced saw we reviewed has this ability, so it’s disappointing to see that it wasn’t included on a saw that costs twice as much.

This isn’t a big deal if you plan to use the saw in the same environment every time, but one of its biggest draws is its portability. If you think you can live without this ability, or that the added features such as the vacuum make up for it, then this is a great choice.

Craftsman Evolv 10″ Table Saw – Best Budget Fixed Table Saw

bosch table saw consumer report

For the buyer with a little more money to spend, the Craftsman Evolv is a great choice. It is designed to be a more or less permanent fixture of your workshop or garage, though, since it doesn’t fold down.

As you might expect, it’s pretty large. It weighs about 50 pounds and takes up a good amount of space, so make sure you can actually fit it in your workspace before you spend any money on it.

It sits atop a 36” tall table which is 25” wide and 17” deep. You can’t change the height of the saw, but at the very least, you can tilt the table to make things easier for yourself. It has a tilt range of up to 45°, so it’s usable for even the most awkward cuts.

best table saw for the money

So what exactly does this saw come with? After all, it costs a little over $150, so there must be something else included, right? Sure enough, you’ll also get a 24-tooth carbide-tipped blade, a few blade wrenches, pawls, and hex keys, as well as a mitre gauge and push stick.

This is a 10” saw, and as a result, you’ll be able to pick up replacement blades from just about any hardware store. Since this product doesn’t come with any spares, this is something you’ll want to do sooner rather than later.

best portable table saws 2018

One of the things we liked about this model is that it has a large, easy to hit power switch. In those crucial moments when something goes wrong, it’s important that you can just slap the side of the unit to turn it off, and this also makes it far safer to use.

The thickest piece of wood that this saw can handle is 3”, although as you might expect, this is reduced when the table is angled. At 45°, it can cut through up to 2.5”. This is a pretty decent thickness and should allow you to handle anything short of professional joinery.

Plus, get this: it even comes with a 12-month warranty, so if it breaks, you won’t have to spend another penny.

What We Loved

  • Can cut through pretty thick materials
  • Uses readily available 10″ blades
  • Large, easy to find power button

What We Didn’t Like

  • Large and heavy

SKIL 3410-02 10-Inch – Best Mid-Budget Table Saw

dewalt table saw

Now that we’re getting into the more expensive table saws, you’re probably thinking that they’ll come with more flashy accessories, but in truth, the SKIL 3410-02 goes one better: it improves upon the basics, making it more likely that you’ll turn to this when you need a job done well.

It retails for something in the region of $220, but don’t let that put you off. This saw has a lot to offer, including a large table stand that can fold down when not in use.

The table’s standard measurements are 20” wide and 26” tall, however, this can be extended all the way to 32” tall to make it easier to work with if you’re very tall. It weighs quite a lot, though, since the frame is made of cast iron aluminum – a huge 67 pounds.

It comes with a single 10” blade, however, it isn’t of a particularly high quality. It’s far more suited towards a rip-cut than a crosscut. As a result, one of the first things you should do if you choose this saw is to pick up a pack of replacement blades.

rockwell table saw

When perfectly flat, the maximum cut depth is 3.5”, and this only decreases to 2.5” when at a 45° angle. This means that even when diagonally oriented, this saw can cut through thicker materials than some of the lower priced models can on a flat surface.

This saw also comes with a generous warranty policy. As long as you register it within the first thirty days of purchase, you’ll be covered for up to three years. Clearly, SKIL is a company which values high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

We liked that there’s an easy to view measurement system. When you place your material down, the measure at the bottom of the table tells you exactly how long or thick it is.

Further to this point, this saw comes with a 15 amp motor. Essentially, this means that the blade spins faster, which, in turn, makes for a cleaner cut, even on notoriously difficult materials. We would have really liked to see some kind of vacuum port though: this product makes a pretty big mess, so you’ll have to keep a broom handy.

Rockwell RK7241S  – Most Portable Table Saw

review table saw

We get it: not everyone is going to want a table saw that can’t move from place to place. Luckily, Rockwell has created the RK7241S – a table saw that folds up like a suitcase. It uses its side-mounted wheels to roll along, making it easier to take with you on the go.

It’ll cost you, though: priced at around $380, this is one of the more expensive saws on our list. Happily, its portability is not just a gimmick – as you might expect since it weighs almost 90 pounds, this saw is actually pretty good once you get it set up.

It actually allows you to unfold part of the fence to allow for really wide cuts. At its furthest, you can extend it up to 30” in size, and that’s not all. According to Rockwell, no other table saw cuts as deep as this one: you can cut up to 3.5625” deep in one fell swoop.

This saw is another which uses a 10” blade, and there’s even a laser indicator which lets you know if the blade is tilting one way or another. Given that it spins at 4800rpm, this could save you (and your materials) from a nasty accident.

how to use a table saw

It has a pretty high maximum cutting height too: up to 4”. Hypothetically, you could even cut fence posts with this thing, which is something none of the others we’ve seen can do.

Put it this way: yes, this is an expensive saw. Is it the most expensive out there? Not by a long shot. Is it one of the best on the market for under $500? Yes, and here’s why.

overall best table saw

It’s portable. The innovative suitcase style design has to be seen to be believed and makes this the ultimate portable table saw.

It’s versatile. Whether you’re looking to cut scrap wood or a 4×4”, it can handle the job. It takes the hard work out of yard work. There’s no need to draw pencil lines across your materials since the laser will do that for you, and it even accounts for blade tilt.

We would have liked to see this saw come with a few replacement blades, though. Given that it costs almost $400, you’d think Rockwell could afford to throw in something that costs $10 or less. It’s not a big deal, it just means another trip to the store is all.

What We Loved

  • The laser creates a projected cutting line
  • Higher cut depth than its competition
  • Highly portable

Bosch GTS1031 10-Inch – Best High-End Mini Table Saw

best table saw on the market

Just because a table saw is expensive, that doesn’t mean it has to be huge. The GTS1031 from Bosch proves this point: when it’s fully collapsed, it’s absolutely tiny, and although it weighs almost 65 pounds, it’s one product which won’t drag you down.

This one is priced at around $350, which is fairly high for a mini table saw, but try to think of it more as a portable workshop. Not only is it highly portable thanks to the side-mounted carry handle, it also has a storage space for all of your tools underneath the table itself.

The table is 26” wide and 24.8” deep. Unlike most other mini saws, this one comes with an adjustable base. At its maximum extension, it stands a little over 15” tall, so whilst you may have to stoop a little bit, it’s far from difficult to use.

best table saw review 2018

It comes with a single 10”, 24-tooth blade. Now, this is nothing special, but with a decent replacement, there’s very little you can’t do. The table can tilt at up to a 45° angle, and when fully flat can cut up to 3 1/8” in one go.

The motor that this product uses is the same as most of the others and yet it has a higher speed – 5000 rpm under no load. This won’t make much of a noticeable difference but should cut things slightly faster and with less pressure required.

This saw also comes with a rip fence, self-aligning guard, a mitre gauge, and all the wrenches you’ll need. On top of that, you also get a 30-day money back guarantee and a full year’s warranty. It makes sense: this tool is an investment, and

best table saw 2019

Let us put it this way: if you need a table saw but don’t want it to be limited to use in your workshop, the GTS1031 is a strong choice. It’s small enough to throw into the back of your car and even allows you to take everything you’ll need thanks to its onboard storage.

This product would be absolutely perfect if it were just a little lighter. Don’t get us wrong, the frame is a very useful addition, but does add a considerable amount of weight to an already heavy product. Despite this, we still think that this is a great all roundtable saw that’s well worth your time and money.

What We Loved

  • Comes with adjustable legs
  • Small size, high versatility
  • Very high blade speed

What We Didn’t Like

  • Heavier than most mini saws

DEWALT DWE7491RS – Most Versatile Table Saw

best benchtop table saw review

DEWALT is one of the world’s best-known tool manufacturers and for good reason. As a result, their products are usually more expensive, and this one is no exception. The DWE7491RS retails for a little under $600 but combines the sheer scale of a full-sized table saw with the portability of a smaller one.

It’s a pretty big tool, standing 24.5” tall, and both 31” deep and wide. However, you can fold the stand down and into itself, creating a travel suitcase style package which uses two large wheels for easier mobility. These will come in handy for sure since it weighs 90 pounds.

This saw has almost unlimited potential. It has a maximum rip capacity of 32.5”, so even large materials are no problem. Unfortunately, its maximum cut depth is just 3”, so it might take a few passes to deal with thicker blocks of wood.

The DEWALT uses a 10” blade with 24 teeth per inch. As you might expect, this creates a fair amount of sawdust, however, unlike its competitors, this saw comes with two 2” vacuum ports and one for dust collection. After all, if you’re taking this to a work site, you aren’t going to want to leave a mess behind.

table saws reviews

Make no mistake: if you buy this table saw, you’ll never need another. Even if something goes wrong, you’ll be covered by DEWALT’s three-year limited warranty and as long as you didn’t break it, they’ll fix or replace it for free.

Now, we know that not everybody has a budget that will stretch this far, and that’s okay. This is a tool made for professionals by professionals and has a price tag which reflects this. If you’re just planning to use it for smaller projects, you’d probably be best suited for one of the lower priced models.

portable best table saw

We really liked how versatile this saw is. Its added mobility makes it perfect for throwing into the back of the van and taking to an offsite location. Thanks to its built-in dust collection capabilities you don’t have to worry about making a mess on someone else’s property and because it’s so large, there are very few things you can’t cut.

How To Choose The Right Table Saw For You

If you don’t know much about table saws, they can be a little intimidating at first. Relax, we’ve got you covered. We’ve put together a short guide which points out some of the things you should be looking at before you actually spend any money on a new saw.

Materials

What exactly are you looking to use the saw for? If it’s just for hobby work or crafts projects, you probably don’t need a huge, expensive beast of a saw. You might want to consider one of the lower priced mini saws, since a lot of the time, they’re more than suitable for this type of work.

If you do have grander goals in mind, be sure to check out the product’s maximum cut depth. This refers to the thickness of material that the saw can cleave through in one go. A 3” cut depth is fairly standard, but some go even higher than that. Remember that this means you can cut through a 6” piece of wood – you just have to turn it around first.

Blades also vary in terms of use. Some are better for ripping, some are better for cross cuts. If you’re unsure which is best for you, there’s a helpful article here that will help you decide.

Location

Do you have a workshop at home? Do you store everything in your garage? If so, you might want to consider a static, full-sized table saw. Since it always stays in the same place, there’s very little need for it to be small or portable.

Conversely, if you’d like to take the saw from one location to another, you have two options: purchase a mini table saw, or get one that folds down. These are pretty great, but are usually far more expensive – it’s really all down to how you intend to use the product.

If you do want a portable saw, make sure that it has a vacuum port. The last thing you’re going to want to do is to make a mess of someone else’s property. Maybe bring a couple of dust bags with you as well – it’s only polite.

Conclusion

review table saw

So there you have it. We’ve compared seven of the best table saws around, and even though each of them excels in their own way, we’ve come to the conclusion that the best one overall is the Rockwell RK7241S Table Saw with Laser.

It’s ultra-portable and has a host of features which make it easier to use than its competitors. There’s a laser guideline to keep cuts clean and simple, and its high maximum cut depth means that it’ll rarely come across something that takes more than two passes. Sure, the blade it comes with could be better, but for such an affordable table saw, can you really complain?
