The 16 Best Wheelbarrows For 2021

Gorilla Carts GOR4PS

Traditionally, when you think of a wheelbarrow, you probably think of a device with two handles and one wheel.

That may be the technical definition.

We’ve decided to broaden the definition for the purposes of this article, however.

While we have definitely included a lot of traditional wheelbarrows, we’ve included a wide range of wheeled devices to help you out in the yard.

We did this because everyone has different needs and uses while doing yard work.

Saying that the first item on our list is a cart from a fairly well-known brand, Gorilla.

This is super heavy-duty.

It has four wheels, a capacity of 600 pounds, and measures 38.7” x 20”.

If you move a lot of heavy objects, then look no further.

This cart is a good price and has some nice little features that make it easy to use.

For one, it has a padded handle that makes it comfortable and even enjoyable to pull.

Fill it to the max and you won’t even believe that you’re pulling 600 pounds.

It also has a patented quick-release dump feature that makes unloading all of that heavy yard stuff a breeze.

The wheels are tough, it’s super easy to maneuver, and you have plenty of ground clearance to go over any rough terrain.

There is one major downside to consider, however.

It is a giant pain to assemble!

You will need a lot of tools and a lot of patience.

But! If you can make it past the assembly, you will be rewarded with a reliable yard cart (and potentially the best wheelbarrow ever) that will serve you for years to come.

Marathon Dual-Wheel Residential

The next wheelbarrow that we have coming up looks a little bit more like your typical wheelbarrow.

If you prefer this design or just find it easier to push rather than pull, then definitely consider this dual-wheel, residential wheelbarrow from Marathon.

While this may not be a contractor wheelbarrow, it is certainly still rugged and durable.

It can hold up to 300 pounds (or five cubic feet – whichever you get to first).

Not bad for a wheelbarrow of this size.

It’s also very lightweight at only 29 pounds.

The handle is comfortable to hold and makes it easy for you to push or pull the wheelbarrow if you prefer.

One thing it has over the previous wheelbarrow as well is that it’s MUCH easier to assemble.

You should have no trouble at all.

One drawback is that some users reported the tires aren’t of the best quality.

They should be fine for everyday use or if you don’t have a lot of rough terrain in your yard.

But if you are constantly going over large rocks or some sort of rugged terrain, then you might want to consider purchasing an independent set of wheels to replace the ones that come with it.

All in all, a decent little wheelbarrow that works for all ages and strengths and will undoubtedly get the job done.

And as an added bonus, it comes in three different colors!

WORX Aerocart Multifunction 2-Wheeled Yard Cart

We are going to tell you right up front – this is easily one of our favorites wheelbarrows on the list.

It is definitely a top contender for the best wheelbarrow.

It’s one of the best-rated wheelbarrows and potentially the world’s greatest wheelbarrows.

Where do we begin?

This features a durable, all-steel construction that can carry up to 300 pounds.

The tires are super durable and will never need inflating.

It’s also completely versatile.

Not only does it function perfectly as a wheelbarrow, but you can also transform it into a dolly if you need to carry awkward, heavy items!

All you need to do is extend the little platform at the bottom and you’re good to go.

It’s also super lightweight making it easy for anyone in the family to use.

It’s about as lightweight as you can get without buying a children’s wheelbarrow.

One downside to this is that while it can carry heavy loads, the area inside the wheelbarrow isn’t super big.

In fact, it’s only three cubic feet.

For comparison’s sake, most other wheelbarrows on the list are around five or six cubic feet.

We love this wheelbarrow/yard cart for two main reasons: durability and versatility.

If, however, you need something with a much larger volume – you should maybe consider going with something else to better suit your needs.

Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG564200BLA

Rubbermaid. A brand familiar to almost everyone.

They dabble in a lot of different things, including wheelbarrows.

This might be some of the best dabblings they’ve done!

This is an awesome wheelbarrow.

While versatility was the last one’s strong suit, capacity is this one’s selling point.

You get a capacity of up to 300 pounds but a much larger volume inside.

Actually, you can purchase this in two different variations.

The small size at 3.2 cubic feet or the larger size at 7.5 cubic feet.

The more popular option is the 7.5 cubic feet.

You can also opt for larger wheels to make pushing this around even easier.

This is perfect if you have to move large amounts of mulch, leaves, or anything else that is in excess in your yard.

It is a one-piece tub design that makes it super easy to put together and much less likely that it will break.

One design flaw though is that it’s not super easy to dump the contents out, especially if you really loaded it up.

It will definitely require some strength and brute force to get everything out.

This is still commercial-grade and could be a great contractor wheelbarrow.

We recommend this for anyone who has a lot of something to move. At 7.5 cubic feet, this will definitely make the job go by a lot quicker.

Suncast LC1250D

We have to admit, it’s going to be hard to follow up the last wheelbarrow from Rubbermaid.

It was great. But, it was also expensive.

And we realize it’s not necessarily for everybody.

So, coming next down the pipeline is a garden cart from Suncast. The Suncast LC1250D.

This is another great rolling lawn cart that may not be as rugged but still has a decent capacity.

This is also much easier to use across the board, as opposed to the previous one.

This guy has seven-inch wheels, a 15.5-gallon capacity, and extremely durable construction.

Suncast is also a brand that you can trust when it comes to outdoor items.

They make patio furniture, outdoor storage units, hose reels, and much more.

So, when it comes to anything having to do with the outdoors, Suncast is your brand.

This is great for doing yard work but it’s also versatile enough to use for grocery shopping (if you live in a city), or even carting your laundry to/from the laundromat.

It is also basically a one-piece item so not much assembly is required.

One thing that we should definitely note is that the handle isn’t super comfortable.

So yes, you can lug up to 15.5 gallons but it won’t feel the best on your hands.

Overall, this is an affordable garden cart that is durable and has a fairly large capacity.

If you want something that can hold a lot of stuff, but maybe isn’t as intense as the previous garden cart, then the Suncast LC1250D could be the wheelbarrow for you.

Consider adding a mosquito trap in your garden. You can focus gardening without worrying the mosquitoes around you. Read our created list here!

Jackson M6T22

Jackson – another trustworthy, reliable brand name in the world of wheelbarrows.

This is a traditional contractor wheelbarrow that may look deceptively simple but will work with you to really get the job done.

It’s constructed out of seamless steel with front braces making it easy to maneuver and even easier to stop when you need to.

The tire is also super heavy-duty.

It’s a 16-inch tubed tire so it’s plenty big to move across any sort of terrain you need it to.

The steel tray has a capacity of six cubic feet, which is slightly above average for a wheelbarrow in this class.

The handles are wooden, which isn’t necessarily the most comfortable thing in the world but they are completely sturdy and will last you a long time.

But still.

We recommend that you use gloves when handling this, lest you get any splinters.

Another huge plus is that this is super easy to assemble.

This can really make all the difference.

Often times, the last thing you want to do when you receive your wheelbarrow is spend hours putting it together.

Especially if right after you have to go out and do yard work!

Luckily with this one, you’ll be up and running in minutes –

Ready to get out there and move that mulch.

If you need something simple and durable and don’t mind the simplicity of a traditional wheelbarrow, go ahead and pick up the Jackson M6T22.

Giantex Garden Wagon Carrier

When was the last time you ever had 400 pounds of anything laying around?

Well, that’s okay!

Just in case you do, this garden wagon carrier from Giantex will help you get the job done.

It has a capacity of 400 pounds and can carry a large volume as well so you can actually fit a lot of material.

This is a four-wheeled device that has pneumatic tires that sustain good pressure.

In other words, you’ll rarely have to re-inflate the tires, if you ever have to at all.

Another selling point to this wagon carrier is that it’s easy to assemble!

Again, not necessarily a deciding factor but it is nice to get a wheelbarrow that’s no hassle to put together.

Unlike some other wagons on this list, this one from Giantex is super easy to dump.

What good is a wheelbarrow or garden cart that can store hundreds of pounds if it’s a giant pain to dump those hundreds of pounds out?!

No need to worry about this one.

Just one lever to press and voila.

Everything that was in the wagon will go flying out.

Just make sure that you don’t press it if your kids are riding in it….

Or if they’re misbehaving, then go right ahead!

Polar Trailer 8449

Don’t get us wrong – name brands aren’t necessarily everything.

But when you’re in the process of making a big purchase and really want something that you can rely on, it can be nice to go with a brand that you know and trust.

That brings us to our next wheelbarrow from Polar.

The Polar Trailer 8449 is one hell of a wheelbarrow.

It’s heavy-duty, extremely easy to maneuver, super easy to balance, and has a very large capacity.

It can hold up to 400 pounds or up to seven cubic feet!

That makes it one of the larger wheelbarrows on our list.

The tires are also huge.

Going over gravel, sticks, rocks, or any other type of rugged terrain that usually proves difficult to you?

That won’t stand a chance against this wheelbarrow from Polar.

This tops the list in the category of heavy-duty wheelbarrows.

With such a rugged wheelbarrow, you might think that it’s pretty heavy, right?

Not the case!

When this is empty, it only weighs 35 pounds – including the tire weight!

Now for the flaws.

This is rugged, but not necessarily great for commercial use or to transport rough materials such as concrete.

And like a lot of other similar wheelbarrows, this is a bit difficult to assemble.

Ah well, every wheelbarrow is bound to have a downside.

FDW Heavy Duty Poly Garden Utility Yard Dump Cart

Okay, so we admit that wheelbarrows are usually with one or two wheels.

And that if it has four wheels, it’s closer to a ‘cart’ or a ‘wagon’.

But the carts with four wheels seem to just be more heavy-duty and more accessible to everyone!

It distributes the weight much more evenly and makes it easier for people across all age groups and strengths to use.

With that being said, we present to you the utility yard cart from FDW!

This is decently big.

It can hold up to 360 pounds and has dimensions of 36.2” x 20.5” x 19”.

In other words, this can hold a lot of yard stuff.

This has a wide handle that’s foam-padded, making it not just easy but also comfortable to pull around the yard.

One thing that can often be missing with garden carts is an easy way to dump out the contents.

Lucky for you, that isn’t the case here!

No matter how much you have in there, it’s super easy to dispose of whatever’s in there.

It has a quick-release system that’ll make your life that much easier every time you have to empty it.

Unfortunately, with great power comes great assembly.

Similar to other products that look like this one, the assembly is difficult.

Great risk, great reward.

If you can get past assembly, you’ll have a cart that will save you effort and time over the next couple of years.

We say the assembly is worth it.

Mac Sports Collapsible

Really want a wheelbarrow or garden cart that can hold a lot but doesn’t take up a lot of space?

It may seem like the two contradict each other.

And usually, they do.

But not with the Mac Sports Collapsible.

As the name suggests, this garden cart is collapsible.

But don’t worry.

You won’t have to compromise capacity or durability.

Well, sort of.

It does have a slightly lower capacity than some other carts on our list and can only hold about 150 pounds.

But let’s be honest….

How many of you are actually carrying 400, 500, or 600 pounds in your wheelbarrow?

Maybe if you’re using it for commercial purposes, but still.

This should do the trick for most home purposes.

It’s made of 600 denier polyester fabric that isn’t just durable, but also extremely easy to clean after each use.

The best part? It folds up to almost nothing so it’s super easy to store!

This is great if you’re traveling, going to the beach, or just don’t have a ton of storage around your house.

The handle is comfortable to hold so it makes it enjoyable to pull around.

This is definitely one of the best collapsible wheelbarrows/wagons out there.

If you’re looking for the perfect combination of portable and durable, look no further.

The Mac Sports Collapsible comes highly recommended by us.

Gorilla Carts GOR400-COM

For the second time on this list, we’re featuring a cart from Gorilla.

What could possibly instill more faith in the durability of a wheelbarrow or garden cart than the brand name Gorilla?

We love this one.

It’s a little bit bare-bones but that’s one of the things that we like about it.

It features a durable 34” x 18” steel mesh bed with 10” pneumatic tires.

It offers plenty of ground clearance as well so no matter where your yard work takes you, this will be able to climb over just about anything.

Do you often carry large loads and find yourself thinking that you wish you had just a little bit more room?

No problem.

The sides of this cart are actually removable! So, if you have something awkwardly large to move, you can easily remove the sides and toss it on there.

It holds up to 400 pounds and with the padded handle, it’s super comfortable to pull.

It is also easy to assemble and you’ll be out there working in less than 30 minutes.

Since the sides are removable, it also makes it fairly easy to transport or throw in your car if need be.

One thing to beware of, as you can probably see from the photos, is that this has a mesh design.

In other words, it probably won’t be the best for moving dirt/mulch or other things of the sort.

If you move a lot of larger items, however, then this is definitely the cart for you.

Jackson® Contractors Wheelbarrows

Looking for a reliable contractor wheelbarrow?

Maybe you’re looking for one of the best wheelbarrows for the money.

Whatever the reason – if you’re looking for a traditional commercial-grade wheelbarrow, then stop your search now.

Jackson is very well known in the land of wheelbarrows and they make some excellent ones.

Including this black contractor wheelbarrow.

It has a heavy-duty steel tray and can really take a beating.

The tire is fairly large and should work for most jobs.

It’s not the largest tire out there though.

If you know you’re going to need something that can go over a ton of rocks, sand, gravel, etc. then we recommend potentially replacing the tire with something a bit more aggressive.

This is one of the simpler designs but hey, it’s been around for so long for a reason, right?

Anyway, let’s go over a few more details.

It has a capacity of six cubic feet which isn’t too bad.

It is a bit pricier but it is a contractor wheelbarrow meaning that it’s commercial-grade.

In other words, we think it’s definitely well worth the money.

Smart Garden Cart, Black

Out of all the different variations on the wheelbarrow, this is one of our favorite designs.

For one, it’s super accessible for everyone.

Want to make the kids help out with yard work? This design makes it easy for them to push around mulch, gardening tools, or anything else that may need moving.

Another awesome part is that it comes fully assembled! Huge bonus.

Time is precious and if you can get something that can save you a couple hours of work, then why not?

It may be made of plastic but don’t let that fool you.

This can carry up to 300 pounds and has a capacity o 4.5 cubic feet or 5.5 cubic feet if you’re moving mulch or dirt and can heap it on there.

It’s also super lightweight.

How lightweight, might you ask?

Literally less than 13 pounds!

That’s pretty good considering a lot of wheelbarrows and garden carts can be 20, 30, or even upwards of 40 pounds.

When you’re already pushing around such a heavy load, those extra 20 or 30 pounds can make all the difference.

This isn’t necessarily great for super heavy, intense loads but if you just need something to help you move things around your garden, then go with the Smart Garden Cart.

Polar Trailer 8376 Utility Cart

The wheels on this utility cart are definitely the first of their kind on our wheelbarrow list.

They might not look practical but for what it’s meant for, they’re actually perfect.

If you’re going to be beating this around, going over rocks, running into walls, etc. then maybe the wheels won’t hold up.

However, if you’re going to be moving leaves and other gardening tools, then this is perfect for you.

The tall wheels give you plenty of leverage and make any load you move feel like a tiny fraction of its actual weight.

It also features the largest capacity out of any of the other wheelbarrows on our list

It can carry up to 10 cubic feet! Weight wise, it can only hold 400 pounds but as far as volume, it easily beats out any wheelbarrows out there.

It’s super easy to maneuver as well.

A couple of downsides to point out, although they aren’t major in this case.

It’s a bit expensive and also a bit heavy (it weighs almost 50 pounds – eek!).

The balance also isn’t great and the more you load into it, the more you’ll really have to watch how you move it around.

If you want something that provides you the ease of use and a ton of space to heap mulch into, then we think the Polar Trailer 8376 Utility Cart will take a huge load off your shoulders.

Pun intended.

Allsop Home and Garden WheelEasy

This is admittedly a bit different than just about any other wheelbarrow or garden cart out there.

You may be wondering what the point of a design like this is.

Wonder no more.

This is perfect if you need to get leaves, dirt, mulch, or anything else of the sort into your wheelbarrow.

It’s great because it lays flat on the ground so you can easily shovel, scoop, push, or rake whatever you need to onto the surface and then just pick it up.

It’s very easy and intuitive to use. The handles also have grips, which is always a nice little, added bonus.

And of course, as you can probably tell by the photos, this folds up!

It’s easily one of the most compact wheelbarrows on our list.

This isn’t the wheelbarrow for really intense loads, but it is perfect for everyday gardening and raking.

And if space is one of your major concerns, then you really cannot go wrong with the WheelEasy from Allsop.

Allsop is also well-known for its excellent customer service.

The company (as well as their customer service team) is based completely in the United States which makes them easy to get in contact with.

This is an interesting design that might be slightly specialized and not great for everyone but it makes the perfect gardening companion and is easily one of the best wheelbarrows for gardeners.

Rubbermaid Commercial FG370712907

This is another commercial-grade garden cart that is sure to turn your gardening nightmare into a blissful gardening dream.

This isn’t quite as powerful as the previous Rubbermaid cart on our list but definitely still gets the job done.

It has a capacity of 200 pounds and is fairly deep.

This is great for moving lighter items such as leaves or mulch but also heavier items such as rocks and gravel.

No matter what you use this for, it turns the chore into a breeze.

Some people report forgetting that they’re even doing chores at all!

At level capacity, it holds 3.25 cubic feet and its heaped capacity is 4.5 cubic feet.

The tires are great because they aren’t pneumatic and therefore will never need to be filled with air.

This will let you go over any terrain that you want to.

Rocks? No problem.

Sand? Not a care in the world.

Tough gravel? Go right ahead.

We do have a couple of tiny complaints but nothing serious.

This is great for light to heavy yard work and isn’t as heavy-duty as some on the list.

But if that’s all you’re going to use it for, then no problem!

It also is a bit of a pain to store. It doesn’t come apart or fold down at all so you’ll need some space in your garage if you want to store it correctly.

All in all, a nice little reliable cart from Rubbermaid.

How To Choose The Right Wheelbarrow For You

Does all this wheelbarrow talk have your head spinning?

Overwhelmed by the endless possibilities of lightening your load?

Well, don’t get discouraged! There are plenty of options out there and if you choose any of the wheelbarrows on our list, you’ll be golden.

Of course, though, you’ll want to choose the one that best suits your needs.

And to do that, you’ll want to take a look at a few key features to help you work through exactly what you need.

Not necessarily want, but need.

Make sure to read our buyer’s guide before making any final decisions!

This is going to be the very first thing that you’ll want to look at. Most wheelbarrows have capacities that will go well beyond what you’ll ever need to use, as far as weight.

Volume is really the only area where you might run into issues.

If you’re just doing light gardening and moving a few things here and there, you shouldn’t need anything larger than three to five cubic feet.

If you’re often moving large mounds of dirt, mulch, or anything else – it might behoove you to get something that can hold a bit more.

A larger capacity means fewer trips and ultimately less work for you.

Number of Wheels

Wheelbarrows can have any number of wheels ranging from one to four (although we don’t think you’ll find one with three wheels).

Depending on what you’re using it for, usually, the more wheels means it’s easier to move around.

With four wheels though, it makes it a bit trickier to move into tight spaces, however.

But it distributes the weight much more than with one wheel.

This is a minor point but if space is tight, then it might be something to consider.

We have a few on our list so if you need the extra space, consider springing for a collapsible wheelbarrow.

They tend to be less heavy-duty and powerful than their non-collapsible counterparts but if you need the space, you need the space!

Phew! That’s a lot of wheelbarrow talk for one article.

Okay, after looking at almost 20 different wheelbarrows we bet you’re wondering which one is the best wheelbarrow.

Like we mentioned, of course, this is going to ultimately depend on exactly what you need it for.

With that being said, we still feel like there’s one wheelbarrow that beat out the rest for the title of best wheelbarrow of 2018.

Which one is it?

The suspense is killing us. Drum roll, please!

The best wheelbarrow is the Mac Sports Collapsible!

We know, we know, this isn’t necessarily the most rugged or intense wheelbarrow but hear us out!

We think this is the ideal wheelbarrow for many people.

It’s easy to maneuver, it has a fairly large capacity, and folds up for super easy storage!

We also love its versatility.

You can use it in the yard, you can take it to the beach, you can use it for mulch, leaves – anything really!

It’s extremely easy to clean and as an added bonus comes in a bunch of different colors!

It’s also lightweight so it won’t add much to your load while you’re doing yard work.

The Mac Sports Collapsible takes the cake as the best wheelbarrow in our book.

We really hope this made your decision at least a little bit easier and you have a good idea of which one is going to be best for you.
